Give the purifier access to room air

An air purifier needs clear access to both its intake and outlet. Blocking either side with curtains, cabinets or furniture can reduce effective airflow. Manufacturer clearance guidance should take priority because different devices draw and discharge air in different directions.

Avoid choosing a corner only because it is convenient

Corners are often convenient for cables and furniture layouts, but they may not be ideal for circulation. If a unit is hidden behind a sofa or under a shelf, a large portion of its cleaned air may recirculate locally instead of mixing through the room.

Think in three dimensions

Air moves vertically as well as horizontally. Heat from people, windows, lighting and equipment can create convection currents. Ceiling fans, HVAC diffusers and open doors also influence air movement. Placement should consider these existing patterns rather than treating the room as a flat floor plan.

Ceiling placement changes the constraints

A ceiling-mounted purifier is naturally kept away from floor furniture and can occupy a central architectural position. The trade-off is that structural mounting, power, ceiling height and service access become part of the installation decision.

For multiple rooms, one unit may not be enough

An open doorway does not guarantee that enough air from an adjacent room will reach one purifier. Closed doors make this even more obvious. For consistent treatment across separated rooms, multiple units or an integrated building ventilation strategy may be required.
